1. Presentation

The Mediterranean Musics School of Paris « Ecole des Musiques Méditerranéennes de Paris - EMM » is arranging an arab music workshop in Amman in cooperation with The « National Music Conservatory » of Amman, Jordan. The worshop will take place from 15th to 19th of March 2020 under the joint artistic and pedagogic responsibility of Mr Wassim Ben Chaouacha and Mr Tareq Jundi.

This workshop is dedicated to musicians, amator or professional level, having a background knowledge in arab music and who desire to improve their vocal or instrumental oud technique.

Group classes will take place on 15th-19th March from 16:00 to 19:30 at the National Music Conservatory, Amman. During those classes, teachers from Conservatory will assist and coach the students to learn and practice vocal techniques or oud techniques based on practical exercises and classic Arab music pieces

 

Mr Tareq Jundi will chair a master class about

the history of vocal and instrumental forms in academic and popular music

in Jordan and Middle-East.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

In addition to the arab music workshop some cultural visits are planned. You will have the opportunity to discover Jordan and its vestiges of the past.  The complete trip from Paris is a 9-day travel from 14th to 22nd of March 2020. Four guided visits are programmed during the stay in Jordan : Amman national museum, Jerash and Ajlun, Dead sea and Mount Nebo, and Petra and Wadi Rum desert.

 

Targets of the workshop

Oud :

 

► Learn and practice different risha techniques

► Get a background on interpretation in instrumental and vocal arab music forms

► Discuss interest of modal music in traditionnal context 

► Improve technical sound, interpretation, ornamentation techniques

 

 Vocal :

 ► Learn and develop vocal techniques in arabic classic music

► Start interpretation of different arab vocal forms 

► Discuss interest of modal music in traditionnal context

► Interpret popular songs

 

Participant requirements 

Students interested in participating in this workshop are kindly asked to fill out the request form to outline their music biography and to provide a video

Application deadline : February, 2nd 2020

Please note that funding requests to AFDAS or another organism shall be submitted 2 months prior the starting date of the workshop.

 

Applications to the workshop have to be validated by the pedagogic coordinators

and are conditionned by the maximum number of participants.
