videoconference music lessons
EMM uses Zoom.com as its official video lesson software. However, some teachers may use other platforms such as Skype, Google Duo, Face Time, etc.
The following elements are necessary for the success of your lessons:
-
You will need a laptop or computer with camera, tablet or i-pad, or smartphone to participate. Device must be fully charged or plugged in at start of the lesson.
-
Microphones are very sensitive, so lessons should take place in a quiet environment, isolated from outside noise such as televisions, radios, kitchen noises, voices and conversations etc.
-
The student and teacher will not be able to play at the same time due to the slight delay in the meeting.
-
The student should not be holding the device. It should be placed on a stationary surface for best results.
Start your lesson with Zoom:
-
First Video Lesson - Join the lesson 15 minutes before the scheduled lesson time. Most devices require a small app download to join the lesson.
-
Arrive in the video lesson 5 minutes early to maximize your time with the instructor.
-
Just like in-person, instructors may be in another lesson before yours, so be patient.
-
Open the meeting email notification in your email provider.
-
Select the link labeled “Join Zoom Meeting”.
-
If you haven't downloaded the Zoom app, you may be prompted to do so.
-
Select the “Join with Video” button.
-
A box will appear with “To hear others, please attach audio”. Select “Call via Internet Audio”.
-
The tablet, smartphone or camera must be placed facing the student.
