Quanoun - kanoun lessons

The qanûn (in Arabic or Persian: قاﻧﻮﻥ; also transcribed kanoun, kanun, kanon, kanonaki, qanun, quanoun, kalong) is a plucked string instrument of the table zither family, very widespread in the countries of the Middle East as well as than in Greece, Iran, Azerbaijan, Armenia and Chinese Turkestan. It should not be confused with the santour which is a struck string instrument.

This mysterious plucked string instrument called quanoun or (table zither) includes a rich sound palette whether in the treble or the bass. It is played using two plectrums linked to the index finger of each hand by two metal rings called kuchtoubane

The quanoun is a specific instrument of Arabic music. This plucked string instrument has a rich sound palette in both treble and bass, allowing it to be introduced to Western music such as jazz and improvised music.

Our teaching method alternates in perfect harmony between the use of music theory, the acquisition of playing techniques and those of improvisation, a fundamental aspect of oral tradition music. The student will be led to discover the repertoire of this instrument as well as the various masterpieces of the great masters such as Göksel Baktagir, Tamburi Cemil Bey, Halil Karaduman, Jamel Abid and others. These courses will allow the student to know the modes and bases of interpretation and improvisation in Arabic music.
Training in this instrument revolves around several axes:
•        Pose du corps, tenue de the instrument and the coordination between the right hand and the left hand.
•       Les différents jeux de plectre (richa) : plectre simple, double ou reversed ; decomposition of the musical gesture and enrichment of the rhythmic formulas.
•        Maîtrise de la technique des ( ourab), metal levers manipulated by the left hand.
•        L'alternance entre jeu aux plectrums and bare finger playing.
•        Travail sur l'indépendance des two hands.
•        Interprétation des répertoires classique et moderne according to the schools of kanûn.
