EMM Paris wants to be a school where
the music and the musicians dialogue
The School of Mediterranean Music in Paris was founded in 2010 by the musician Wassim Ben Chaouacha. From its creation, this school had a main objective, that of filling the absence of a structure providing innovative academic musical training, and responding to the diversity of requests from a public wishing to learn Mediterranean music. The choice of the Mediterranean qualifier is not arbitrary. It goes without saying that the music taught in France is limited to European and Western music. The EMM comes to fill the absence of a structured teaching of the music belonging to the two shores of the Mediterranean. This music essentially includes oriental music (Maghreb and Mashreq) as well as that of Andalusia, Turkey, Greece...
« Our conviction is that music should be accessible to everyone, amateurs or professionals,
young or old. Everyone must be able to give free rein to their artistic fiber
at each period of his life with the instrument he loves »
The EMM wants to be a school intended for all audiences, all ages and origins, wishing to follow a practical and theoretical training. the spirit of providing personalized and adapted musical training. Indeed, the school seeks to offer an education that develops awareness, sensitivity and artistic creation.
" Notre pedagogy is active, because it is not a question of transmitting theoretical knowledge, but of making music, of experiencing it, through the voice, the instrument and the body. The theoretical notions are approached as the learning progresses and they are directly applied on the instrument. The student thus perfectly assimilates his lesson and overcomes more easily the technical difficulties which give way to interpretation and creativity. So it is also participative because it aims to encourage the disciple to express himself by putting him in a situation of participation to develop his creativity »
